At the start of a new year, many people will take time to set goals and resolutions to achieve a healthier lifestyle in the future. The New Year represents an opportunity for global engagement in the improvement of individual lives. There are many ways that people can improve their quality of life. Whether it is through improving the quality of their relationships, increasing energy levels or simply feeling more comfortable with their self-image, it is possible to achieve positive change through the regular practice of small changes in daily routine. Instead of filling your January with too many unrealistic resolutions, focus on developing lifelong habits that will provide benefits to your mind, body, and spirit.

Sduko provides the following seven tips, scientifically supported, for improving your well-being and becoming the best version of yourself in the upcoming New Year.
Renew Your Routines: Wellness Wins for the New Year
1. Sleep Well
Quality sleep has the power to improve many aspects of our daily lives. Sleep is an important part of our health, emotional coping skills, and mental clarity, yet there is often a tendency to overlook sleep in our busy, fast-paced lifestyles. Many people “run on empty” to stay productive instead of focusing on getting the right amount of sleep. If you want to perform at your best, then you must take care of yourself by getting a minimum of 7-9 hours of sleep each night, which allows your body to repair cells, balance hormones, and develop and reinforce memories. You can create better sleep hygiene by creating a set daily routine for yourself to follow each night before going to sleep, limiting the amount of time you spend on screens before going to bed, and creating a relaxing atmosphere where you can sleep. Other habits that should be avoided are consuming caffeine in the evening and eating heavy meals in the evening. To help you relax before bed, it is advisable to practice relaxing methods such as deep breathing or meditation.
2. Exercise Regularly
Physical activity is one of the most efficient ways to enhance your physical and psychological well-being. Exercise does not have to be a rigorous workout at the gym or marathon training all hours of every day. Exercise can be any physical activity that elevates the heart rate; therefore, it could be brisk walking, dancing in the living room, or practicing yoga. Choose an activity that will keep you active and enjoyable, so you can stay committed to it. Try not to go below 150 minutes every week at moderate levels of aerobic activity, and additionally attempt to do strength training at least twice every week. The body’s endorphins are released when you exercise; these are the hormones that make you feel better and are your body’s natural stress, anxiety, and depression reducers.
3. Stay Hydrated
Water is essential for life! Approximately 60% percent of our body’s composition consists of water, and we need water for each system in our body to function properly. However, a lot of people do not realize that they are mildly dehydrated throughout the day without even knowing it. When you become dehydrated, fatigue, headaches, lack of concentration, and mood swings can result. It is important to make drinking enough water part of your daily routine; aim for at least eight glasses (64 ounces) daily, though individual needs will vary based on activity level, climate, and body size. Using a reusable water bottle can be helpful. Citrus fruits add flavour and hydration. For those who struggle to remember, we recommend setting a reminder to encourage drinking enough fluids every day.
4. Spice Up Your Love Life
Relationships are a significant aspect of our emotional health. It’s easy to neglect intimacy and connection in the midst of busy lives, especially during this hectic time. This year is a great opportunity to make a strong focus on your relationship! To maintain the passion in your relationship, try some of the following ideas for creating and sustaining intimacy: include little surprises (like leaving an unexpected note, planning a surprise night out, or spending quality time with your partner), which can help preserve the intimacy of your relationship. Communication is also vital. You must discuss your desires and needs with one another and communicate your personal limits. Sharing new experiences creates a greater connection between partners, so consider trying something different together.

5. Eat Healthy, Nourishing Foods
Your diet affects your energy, your mood, and your long-term health, and instead of using a restrictive diet to try to restrict your diet, focus on a balanced dietary approach, which includes eating whole foods that are nutrient-dense. Focus your diet, as much as possible, on eating from the food groups of Fruits/Vegetables, Lean Proteins, Whole Grains, and Healthy Fats, and eat foods rich in Fiber. Limit food choices that are processed, added sugars, and/or consume excessive amounts of Alcohol. Meal planning & preparation, mindful eating, and becoming aware of your body’s hunger cues can help you form and maintain a healthy relationship with food. Healthy eating is not just about being ‘perfect’ but getting better and fueling your body with love & respect!
